MAPS!!!!
Here is a link to the Gaia map as well as a GPX file in a google drive that you can download and put on the navigation device of your choosing.
Notes from the course team today:
The snow stayed quite nice until around 11am and then was getting pretty soft/sticky, but was totally manageable. Make sure to wax your skis!
Places of Note:
The course is unchanged from the 2022 edition from the start until dropping off of Ball Butte, then things get fun as you will head over to the Broken Hand Col and onto the Bend Glacier, dropping you into the Snow Creek drainage and then regaining Tam Rim near the Pyramid and finishing at the Three Creeks Yurts.
Dropping off the Broken Hand Col onto the Bend glacier was a bit abrupt, so take your time here and look for the easy entry. It is up on the lookers left side. (Mile 8.3)
As you approach the Col going back into Tam Rim near the Pyramid, there is a bit of a steep sidehill you will go across. If the snow is not yet soft this could get very sporty. There is an option to drop about 100' of elevation and be on a nice easy bench, but you will then need to boot pack up to the Col to drop into the Tam side. Choose your own adventure here. (Mile 10.9)
The GPX track is a guide only! Use your wits and choose the best, safest, easiest route as you see fit on the ground. The route we put in is a good one, but if there are spots you are not ok with, take your own route and rejoin at your convenience. The critical points to hit are all the summits (micro summits included!), the Cols and the finish line! Everything else is open to interpretation.
We want to reiterate that you are taking it upon your selves to do this route, and must take full responsibility for yourselves out there. Be safe, be smart and we will still love you if you bail and just head to the yurts at any point!
Also, the Course Team reported excellent skinny dipping in the Three Creeks Lake adjacent to the finish line today, so we have decided the HSSR 2023 will officially have a Beach Theme this year! Good luck with your final preparations, and we will see everyone bright and early at Dutchman on Saturday am!
Week of April 24 updates:
The weather is looking primo for Saturday, with long range forecasts calling for sunny skies and a high of 62f (!) on Saturday. Bring your sun screen, skin wax, extra drinks and sun shirts!
The course team will be out doing final course scouting and prep on Thursday, and a GPX track will be available here on Thursday pm/Friday am.
Don't forget to tipple check the gear lists, (one pack of hot dogs per team!) make sure your team mates are ready to roll, and prepare all your snacks accordingly!
A Sunday breakfast gathering is in the works to do the prize giving and collect everyone for a final debrief and celebration of the event. More details to follow but pencil in 8:30am on Sunday for a gathering.
Hello and welcome to the 2023 edition of the Hella Sweet Ski Race! Below is most of the pertinent information for the event. The course will differ from 2022 in a few key ways that will make the event especially sweet this year. Choose your teammates wisely, read and re read this website, and we will see you all on the 29th!
Please note, this is an arduous, long and challenging adventure, and you are fully responsible for your own well being and safety! If you choose to participate, you are acknowledging this, and taking responsibility for your own success. In the event of misfortune, you are solely responsible for self rescue and extraction!
REGISTRATION/TEAMS
-By invitation only
-Teams of three (3), must be within eye sight of each other at all times
MANDATORY EQUIPMENT
Touring skis/ splitboard
beacon/shovel/probe (every team member must have these)

SAFETY
You are responsible for yourselves, and must be totally self sufficient. We will not rescue you. If you don't think you can complete the course, please don't start.
This will be a very long, arduous, challenging and remote backcountry journey. You will need to apply yourself. Prepare accordingly.
If someone in your group gets injured and cannot continue, call 911 to activate Search & Rescue. Be prepared with lots of warm clothes/food/water because they will take a long time to get to you.
In event of high avalanche danger or poor weather, the route and or date may be altered to avoid avalanche hazards, but every team member must still carry a beacon/shovel/probe at all times.

Shuttle your cars to Upper Three Creeks Sno-Park (map) so you don't have to hitchhike or sleep in the parking lot once you've finished on Saturday.
Saturday April 29th

At the finish there will be various parlor games, beverages, a fire and a hotdog/sausage/veggie dog cook off potluck.
COURSE

Course will be in avalanche terrain, EACH TEAM MEMBER MUST CARRY A BEACON/SHOVEL/PROBE AT ALL TIMES.
The route will cover 20-25 miles and will have 2 checkpoints. Various times have been recorded ranging from 3-12 hours.
There might be a skin track to follow at times, be we advise you to use your mountain ninja skills, a GPS devise and common sense to guide you.
There will be minimal to no course marking.
There is a time cut-off at each checkpoint (but you have been selected for this event because we think you can finish). If you are tardy to a checkpoint, you will be directed to a more direct route to the finish. It will still be a long ways, and you must self-extract.
